In 2010, stage 2 of the race crossed the Churnet at Rocester, before heading up over Ramshorn to Windy Harbour.
Later, it headed back towards Stoke-on-Trent, cutting through the valley at Cheddleton.

Approaching Windy Harbour, a substantial breakaway group had formed.
Shortly afterwards, the peloton flashed past with Caldon Low Quarry and some heavy weather in the background.
Followed, shortly after, by the convoy of team cars.
When the race reached Cheddleton, the breakaway group from before was still largely intact.
And by now, the peloton was well behind and out of contention.
Which can't have made the climb up Cheddleton Hill feel any easier.
With such a healthy lead over the peloton, the winner could only come from the breakaway group. And so it was that New Zealand's Greg Henderson, riding for Team Sky, won the sprint finish to take the stage.
